As a Guide Runner providing services from Running Blind, I
agree to abide by the following:
- I will support my visually impaired training partner to the best of my ability and in good spirits and will be attentive to the special needs of my training partner.
- I will work with my training partner to plan workouts in advance knowing that the needs of the visually impaired athlete are generally more challenging and may be more likely to dictate changes to scheduled workouts.
- I will try to minimize last minute changes to the training schedule due to my own personal issues barring unforeseen circumstances.
- I will notify my training partner as soon as I know that I will not be able to attend any given workout that is scheduled.
- I will strive to make appropriate safety decisions for my training partner and for myself based on training location, traffic conditions, weather and ground conditions (wet, mud, ice etc) and will alter any planned workout based on conditions that appear to be unsafe, including such measures as:
- Changing the planned route
- Shortening a workout
- Cancelling a workout
- I will not wear head-phones at any time that I am training with a visually impaired training partner.
- I will try to communicate with my training partner with appropriate constructive input on form, technique, pacing, or other well intended advice.
- I will notify Running Blind regarding any problems with my training partner’s ability to honor the agreement regarding workouts that have been planned.
- I will notify Running Blind in writing if I feel that my training partner has acted inappropriately and will do so within 24 hours of any incident.
I understand that a failure to abide by the good natured and mature conduct outlined by these conditions could potentially dictate termination of my volunteer services.
Further, I understand that running along city streets is hazardous, and that running with a visually impaired partner requires special attention on my part to look out for the well being of my visually impaired partner as well as my own, including watching for hazards and verbally warning my training partner when I see anything that seems potentially dangerous. I will not hold Running Blind, it’s director, board members, volunteers, donors or supporters liable for any injury or loss of property that occurs as a result of any unforeseen event that occurs when providing well intended guide running services to a visually impaired training partner.
